We’ll stop with the French related linguistic stereotypes now, we just couldn’t help ourselves. Anyway, Amy was supposed to headline at the event on Friday, along with singer Kate Nash, but cancelled literally hours before she was due to appear onstage. A representative for the feisty songstress issued a statement apologising for the cancellation, but insisted that the star did not need hospital treatment. The spokesman said:
"Amy Winehouse was regrettably unable to perform at the Rock En Seine show in Paris, Friday August 29, due to illness. She was taken ill at her house and wasn't able to travel to France for the concert."
But organisers of Rock En Seine claim they were given just two hours notice that the star would not be appearing and were not given an adequate reason for her cancellation. In a statement posted on the festival’s website, organisers said they had decided to start legal proceedings against her. The statement said:
“We were told by Winehouse's agent at 8pm that she would not be there, and we were forced to cancel the performance. We have still not been given any explanation of the exact reasons for her absence.”
Winehouse's next scheduled gig is at Bestival on the Isle of Wight next weekend. Her spokesman said he had no indication she would be too unwell to perform at the event.
