When it comes to celebrity nightmares, tripping up as you make your grand entrance on a TV chat show probably ranks quite high.

Last night Mariah Carey was making an appearance on The Jay Leno Show to promote her upcoming movie and as she arrived to a rapturous applause she very nearly took a tumble but luckily she managed to stop herself from falling flat on her face – PHEW!

Afterwards she tried to make a joke of it by telling the audience:

“You know when I tripped, I had choreographed that earlier. It was a plan to make Jay nervous that he was going to get sued.”

But jokes aside she then pointed to her shoe and said:

“This is what happened backstage, my strap came loose. This is the cause of the whole thing.”

Oh dear, you so know that somewhere out there a stylist has just lost their job!
