Fans Crushed At JLS Free Gig In Birmingham

Four people have been hospitalized and dozens have received medical treatment after a crowd surge during a ceremony to switch on Christmas lights in Birmingham, UK. Officials say 20,000 people - more than anticipated - attended the event, which was scheduled to include fireworks and performances by boy band JLS (Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Jonathan (JB) Gill, Oritse Williams), Birmingham, UK. 14/11/2009

Scores of fans were injured after being crushed at a free Christmas lights switch-on concert in Birmingham yesterday shortly after JLS took to the stage to the perform.

The former X Factor stars had just finished singing at the gig when a metal barrier controlling the audience collapsed causing the crowd to surge forward. 60 people had to be treated at the scene for injuries and a further four were taken to hospital.

Initially 5,000 people were expected to watch the gig but new estimates claim that around 27,000 people eventually turned up to watch the lusted-after boyband.

The Sugababes were also due to perform yesterday, but the concert was hastily cancelled after the mass crowd surge.

when i was canclled every one stared shouting for chipmunck to come on but i wasnt bad from were i saw cuz i only found out about the barria when i got home and my mom told me i hade a good veiw of teh stage and was standing by the big screan but i hop all the injered are ook and well and JLS were amazing x
