Celebrity Big Brother is almost over (major sad face); the final of the programme is this evening and it looks as though it’s going to be a close call between either Gareth or Frankie winning the show.
One person who certainly won’t be receiving that crowning glory however is Nicola McLean, because she (along with Romeo) got evicted from the house the other day. We’ve had a little chat with the lady herself to find out about her time in the BB pad, and of course what she thought about that epic catfight. Here’s what she had to say…
When you look back at the show do you feel sorry for Denise?
No, if you were in there you would feel differently. Every time Big Brother provided some wine, things would change. I love Denise a lot, I was just upset that she felt that because the twins or myself had done modelling, topless - or now I’m out I can see the twins have done a lot more than that - it would be a choice that we would have done that, not that someone would have pulled our top up or top down – that was my point. I really like Denise. I think my point was right but it got blown out of proportion because we’d all had a few wines.
Do you think Denise should have been in the house in the first place?
Who am I to say whether Denise should have been in the house or not. I love Denise - she was a great housemate for me. I’ve got my issues and she’s got hers. We’ve all got issues and that’s called life. I enjoyed her most of the time.
When Georgia was evicted she said the reason why you didn’t get on was because you were jealous of her?
I wasn’t jealous of Georgia at all. I’m a real girlie girl, a woman’s woman. I’m a secret feminist and I really appreciate beauty, boobs, bums and all the rest of it. Georgia wasn’t anyone I’d ever be jealous of. I thought she was absolutely gorgeous I just didn’t think she was much of a personality, but I’m not jealous of beauty.
Why do you think you didn’t get on then?
Georgia is very, very, very quiet. She didn’t mix with anyone and it wasn’t just me who found her hard to get along with it was everybody. The fact that we are two young women, I just feel like we were pitched against one another, but actually we are in totally different leagues. Georgia and the twins are models and I’m just a mum that cooks and cleans and gets on with life. There is no jealousy at all, she is beautiful.
Do you think the twins may have overreacted about what Denise did?
My point was never that they were reserved, it’s like me saying 'I’m shy of anyone seeing my nipples', that’s not the case. My point was if you’ve been a topless model, you’ve done porn, or been a stripper it’s been your choice. Had one of the men pulled one of the twins pants down, they would have been evicted from the show. I was a page three girl through choice, not because someone pulled my top up on national TV. You can’t say just because they’ve done it for a living they should be okay with that, because although I’ve been a page three girl I’m quite a shy person and I would have been absolutely mortified if Denise had pulled my top up. When we drink we all think it’s funny to do things.
How do you change after a drink?
I become more outrageous and funny and more lively. We all change after a drink and that’s why we do it.
How do you think Denise will cope when she comes out of the house and looks back on her behaviour?
She’s lovely woman, she will be fine. She has a strong family and has been married for many years which I admire. She is a good woman, she is just slightly outrageous, she had got two boys and when you are a mum you cope regardless.
Who do you hope to keep in touch with?
Absolutely everyone – including Georgia, I’m hoping that me and Georgia will find things to connect with outside of the house, I think she was just very shy in the house. I’m hoping that we will find a little party and we can click together. I hope to stay in touch with all of them - Natalie will be my friend for life. Kirk, Frankie I adore - and Romeo I hope he can teach my husband a few lessons! I hope to stay in touch with everyone and we can go on and on and on.
Why do you want the twins to leave the house next?
Purely because Gareth has an amazing story; he is an amazing rugby player who has managed to come out with his sexuality and still be a man’s man. He loves his family - he is just an all round amazing guy. Frankie I feel like has made his mistakes, but he is such a sweet boy. Romeo is a real gentleman and really helps everyone out in the house. Denise was lovely – I just felt like all the others offered a lot to the house and the twins not so much, even though I really did like the twins.
Would you visit them in LA?
Listen I’m not going to lie I’m a mum of two, I’m not going to go over to LA as Hugh Heffner does not like stretch marks I’m sure, but if he does then I’m over there.
Were you surprised at the friendship that you struck up with Natasha?
Basically I’m quite an insecure person and that manifests in the fact that I’m quite defensive and if that manifests in the fact that something is morally wrong, then I feel the need to comment. This experience has taught me not to do that. Of course we never sleep with our brother in-laws as that’s just fact - but Natasha was a really, really lovely girl and I really, really liked her. I will see her outside, I enjoyed her stories. She was really good for me in the house and I hope that I was really good for her. She showed me that s**t happens and you’ve just got to move on with it, she was a strong woman and I like strong women.
The twins were heard saying that they didn’t trust you. Was your relationship with them a genuine friendship?
I’m not anybody’s enemy and I’m not intelligent enough to kind of forge fake friendships. But I liked the twins as I liked anyone in the house. If someone pissed me off I told them, that’s how I am and I will continue to do that, it’s the way I bring my children up – if they have problems please say. If the twins had a game-plan then good for them because they are still in there and I’m out here.
Do you think they’re two faced?
I don’t know because I haven’t seen enough. But you know what the Big Brother house is a two faced experience. The fact of the matter is that after week one when you’ve exhausted any kind of conversation, the only thing left is to talk about one another, it’s not from negativity it’s because that’s the only thing you’ve got left to talk about.
How did Big Brother compare with I’m a Celebrity?
Big Brother is very psychological. I’m surprised I lasted as long as I did without calling for a doctor.
If you had to spend five days with one of the other housemates, which housemate would it be?
Natalie – one hundred million percent. She is a beautiful, most amazing person I love her. It was so odd hearing Natalie and Natasha being voted out. I have no clue why they were voted out. To me Natalie was an amazing housemate.
Why do you think that you got on so well with Natalie but didn’t seem to get on so well with Georgia?
I know a lot about Natalie. I could tell you her mum’s name about her experience when her mum passed away, I could tell you about her daughter and when she took her first steps. I could tell you a lot about Natalie. Georgia was a closed book and I’m not judging that because I can do that myself, but I didn’t know anything about Georgia and when I tried to get to know her she would put her guard up. It wasn’t a case of not wanting to know about Georgia, it’s about it being difficult to find out. I had to teach Georgia how to make a cup of coffee - it’s a different world for me. I get up every morning and change nappies and cook and clean. It was odd for me that these girls didn’t know how to make a cup of coffee – just a different world.
