Firstly the poses are not the same so you can not really compare them - i have photos of myself where im in almost the same pose and one is good and some not so good. Secondly if you only saw the untouched one you would still think crikey she looks good - i would like to look that and im in my 30s not my 50's and finally while the photo shop one is more glamourous and polished - isnt that the point?

The qualifications for fashion photography are, ranked from least important to most important: 5. Talent at photography. 4. Ownership of a medium format camera (digital back, or scanned positives), 3. Ability to be grossly sycophantic, 2. Pretensions of art, 1. In depth knowledge of Photoshop's Channel Mixer tool and curves. Channel mixers and curve adjustment make everything OK. Create a few layers, in the bottom layer extend the highlights to the midtones with a curve adjustment, then feck with the colours with a mixer. Then mix the layers. Genius!
