Apparently Ashley arrived at the pair’s Surrey home over the weekend assuming he would be able to grovel in person to Cheryl. But the Girls Aloud singer was having none of it; she refused to talk to the footballer or even let him into the same room as her.
Instead she locked herself in the bedroom, while her angry mum Joan showed Ashley to the door. He was then given twenty minutes to pack some stuff and leave.
We’d like to think Joan gave him his marching orders Peggy Mitchell style: “go on, get out, sling yer hook” etc, etc – but we guess we’ll never know, will we?
Despite his frosty reception from Chezza and her mum, Ashley still thinks he’s got a chance to make things up with his wife. A source said:
"As far as Ashley’s concerned this will not end in divorce. The D word hasn’t been mentioned. He’s not going to give up on their marriage without a fight.”
We don’t fancy his chances…
