Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles has been branded a gay-basher by the gay equality organization Stonewall. Moyles, has been blasted for the way he used anti-gay insults as ‘casual banter’. The controversial DJ caused anger when he called a ringtone he disliked ‘gay’. However, the BBC has defended his choice of words claiming many young people used the word to describe something as ‘lame or rubbish’.

This isn’t the first time Moyles has angered his audience, in 2006 he was awarded the title Bully of the Year after a catalogue of different slurs. One of the more high profile instances took whilst interviewing Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand. During what the BBC has describe as ‘friendly banter,’ the pair discussed the attractiveness of two of Manchester United's players, Alan Smith and Paul Scholes. After much provocation by Moyles, who insisted on asking which team-mate Rio would prefer to date, Rio responded by calling Moyles ‘a faggot.’ I wonder what the odds would be for Moyles retaining his title in 2007? Might be worth a bet.

Chris Moyles is a very poor advert for Radio 1. His whole show is only carried along by the natural talent of Comedy Dave. Moyles seams to think that all we are interested in are his poorly explained experiences from his previous night out down the pub. These are always full of visual gags with a lot of silent airtime, does he not realise he is presenting a radio show??? He is constently slagging off local radio (did he not start off at a local station too?) Somebody really needs to sit him down and make him listen to any local radio breakfast show and point out how professional it sounds comparied to his very amatuer studio production. Could this be due to him not making any prior planning for his shows content??? I think so! Proof of this is when Scott Mills take over his slot. His show is far more polished and proves Scott and his team have given some thought to the show content beforehand. Cheers:)
