Given her multiple brushes with the law recently, we should imagine Lindsay Lohan’s had to fork out quite a substantial amount on legal bills, which means she’s probably got very little left to spend on herself.

So, like almost every celebrity Lindsay tried to bag herself some free goodies this week. No, she wasn’t after a five finger discount (again) this time Lindsay tried to get herself an item for free by asking a very rich man to buy it for her.

The troubled star – who was spotted clothes shopping yesterday – was at a gala in NY this week (you know the one where she was seen looking like this), part of which included a charity auction.

During bids Lindsay spotted a diamond watch she rather like, and having also seen a rich, famous Canadian businessman nearby she had a (not so) brilliant idea. So, she whispered into the ear of her personal assistant who promptly trotted over to the businessman and said:

'Lindsay would very much like it if you'd bid on this item as a gift.'

His response? Well apparently he just laughed and said no. A valiant attempt nonetheless…
