You know when you go to a party, and you drink too much and you end up saying something so stupid that the next morning you wake up, slap your hand against your forehead and shout “Doh!” with embarrassment. Well that’s exactly how Sharon Stone is feeling after her Chinese earthquake slur…

On the red carpet over the weekend at Cannes, Sharon Stone, 50 (old enough to know better) was asked by a reporter what she thought about the humanitarian crisis in China caused by the earthquake.  Stone, who has obviously been brushing up on Chinese history on Wikipedia, firstly launched into an enormous rant about the list of atrocities carried out by the Chinese government and their poor record on human rights in Tibet, before adding:

"All these earthquakes and stuff happened and I thought, 'Is that karma?' When you are not nice that bad things happen to you."

Realising her mouth had run away with her, she backtracked almost immediately. Which we’re sure will be some consolation to the families of the estimated 67, 00 dead, who after all never even got the chance to vote for the government that commit the human rights infringements in their name.

Unsurprisingly Shazza’s comments have caused some offence, and Dior ads featuring the actress have now been removed from Boutiques around China, and some Chinese cinemas have even dropped her films in protest. What! You mean, they won’t get to watch Basic Instinct 2! What a shame…
