When we first clapped eyes of Keira Knightley’s shocking new ad, which aims raise awareness of domestic violence, we were a little bit taken aback, but we figured that was a good thing. Sometimes you need to shock people so that they take notice right?
Well it turns out British TV censors don’t agree. After watching the brutally frank campaign for the Women’s Aid charity, which features Keira being mercilessly beaten up by a partner who accuses her of cheating, the powers that be deemed it too violent and have banned it from being shown on TV.

It is violent and disturbing, but then so is the subject matter. This ad should obviously not be shown before the 9 pm watershed, but there is no way that it should've been banned. This is a thought provoking ad and should be seen - the way the violence is shown is actually less extreme than the violence portrayed in many films and programmes regularly shown on tv - is this apparent double standard because the violence in films etc. is "fictional", so therefore seen as acceptable? Because if it's been judged solely on the basis of the actual violence then there is no way it should've been banned if you compare it to, say, Die Hard movies, that are shown.
Totally agree No 1.
Totally agree No 1 X 2
its sh*t
I love her, simply gorgeous.
Too right n.1!
I agree #1 I couldnt have said it better. I think that it is crap that it was pulled because it is the truth. Women who go through this are to scared to leave and they endure this crap every day. I thought that the ad was light wieghted compared to what a real abused women goes through. They didnt show her being thrown through a door, having her head slammed into a cupboard. In real life it is a lot worse so they need to suck it up and put that ad back out there.
Well put #1 and #7, it a disgrace this was pulled when it shows 30 seconds of phsysical violence that is lightweight compared to what the women this ad is trying to help go through every day.
Having said that however it might get MORE press now it's banned!
Put that bloody TV ad bak on TV u bloody Poms. Every woman has a right.
i agree with number 1 a hundred percent i think that banning it shows the whole "out of sight out of mind/ if you can see it its not happening" approach which is not the way to go about things as serious as this IT IS THE TRUTH ! AND I THINK PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF HOW BAD THINGS ARE
I don't think that should have been banned at all. I respect it. Domestic violence is something that is always hushed. It's not OKAY. I think this should air. Go Keira!
When we can censor it in our homes, then they can censor it on the TV. Until then, isnt it better to raise awareness?
This kind of thing happens every single day. What happens to them, they would probably deem "too violent" too. But that doesn't stop it being the truth, disturbing as it is. British TV censors have failed these women.
Oh well done to those censors... let's hide it away and pretend it doesn't happen eh? Disgusting. I agree with #15 "we've failed these women".
I think it should be shown. This reality, this is part of what happens behind closed doors everyday around the whole world.
Argggh Why dont people wake up!! Its too risky to be shown? oh so we will just carry on with letting women be abused everyday! Im sure that this advert is alot less harder to watch than the pain that some women are going through every day of their lives. Yes its not nice to watch but thats why it most deffinately should be watched for people to wake up and make a difference.
