Early Life

Bar Refaeli was born in Hod HaSharon, Israel on June 25, 1985. She is the daughter of Tzipi (née Kremer), a graphic artist, and Michael Refaeli, an electrical engineer. Her parents are both from Jewish families who emigrated from Europe to Israel.

Bar has one brother named Dvir and a sister named Dana. Her relationship with her siblings is very close; in fact, she has stated that her brother is “the most important person” in her life.

When she was three years old, Bar’s parents enrolled her in the Israeli swimming pool complex Maccabi Tel Aviv to learn how to swim.

In 1993, when Refaeli was eight years old, she began modeling childrenswear for the designers Dorit Shimron and Michal Negrin after being discovered by Israeli fashion photographer Eli Hertzlich.

Career

Bar’s career started when a scout approached her while she was on vacation with her family at the age of 16 and asked if he could give her card to one of his contacts in Milan, Italy. Bar went ahead and gave him her phone number (the scout said that they would have called earlier if she was older) and shortly afterwards, she booked a photo shoot for Italian Elle.

In 2001, at the age of 16, Bar flew to New York City for a trial with Elite Model Management, but it didn’t work out because she was too short.

After returning to Israel, Bar signed with another Israeli agency, Fiesta, and then with Elite Model Management in Milan.

In 2003, she flew to New York for a three-month modeling contract but was turned down by almost all of the major agencies because they thought she looked “too local”. She left empty handed, but decided to stay another few months before returning home.

Bar’s big break came when she became the face of Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental charity campaign “The 11th Hour”. After working with the charity campaign, Bar caught the eye of Hollywood agents and was signed by IMG Models in New York.

In 2006, at the age of 21, she made her debut on the covers of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and Maxim. She also starred in a music video for Maroon Five’s song “Wake Up Call”.

Over the years, Bar has modeled for some of the most famous designers in the world, including Chanel, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Versace.

In 2009, she was named one of the “25 Hottest Women in the World” by Maxim.

Business Success

Bar is also a successful businesswoman; she has her own line of swimwear, has been the face of several luxury brands, and has appeared in numerous television commercials.

Personal Life

In 2011, Bar married Israeli businessman Adi Ezra. The couple have three children; a daughter and two sons.

Bar is a strong supporter of Israel and has been involved in several philanthropic endeavors, including the organization “Lighting a Better Tomorrow” which helps children living in poverty.
