London Breed is an American politician. She is the current mayor of San Francisco. Before that, she worked as supervisor of District 5 and also served on the board of supervisors in the city of San Francisco, California. Breed is a member of the Democratic Party.

Breed was born and raised in the public housing of Plaza East in San Francisco. She was raised by her grandmother in a low-income part of the city and the family relied on federal assistance to get groceries among other things.
Breed lost her sister to a drug overdose and her brother is serving time in federal prison for armed robbery and manslaughter.
Brewed attended Galileo High School and graduated with honors. She joined the University of California Davis to study public service and later earned a Master’s in public administration from the University of San Francisco.
Breed started working for the government after college and was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2012 and became president of the board in 2015. While serving as president of the board, Breed was appointed mayor of San Fransisco following the death of Ed Lee, who was mayor at the time.
A special mayoral election was held on 5 June 2018 in which Breed was formally elected as mayor. She became the first black woman and the second person of color to hold the office of mayor in San Francisco.
She is also the second woman elected as mayor of San Francisco. Breed started her career as an intern for mayor Willie Brown at the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services.
In 2002, Breed was appointed the director of the African American Art & Culture complex and during her tenure she was instrumental in raising $2.5 million to use in renovating the complex.
On 8 January 2013, Breed was appointed the supervisor for District 5 in an official ceremony officiated by Kamala Harris, who at the time was attorney general of San Francisco. During her tenure as mayor, Breed has focused on reducing homelessness in San Francisco, and has promised to build over 1,000 shelters to help in achieving her goals. In addition, Breed has introduced legislation to waive certain contract requirements for homeless shelters and similar services.
She has also increased funding for services such as substance abuse treatment as well as investing in mental health awareness.
