Early Life

Offset was born Kiari Kendrell Cephus on December 14, 1991, in Lawrenceville, Georgia. His father abandoned him and his mother when he was still four years old which resulted in him being raised by his Aunt Labatia Woodward who is Quavo’s mother. He was raised in Gwinnett County, Georgia, near Atlanta with his cousins Quavious Keyate Marshall and Kirshnik Khari Bell.

He was a dancer first before he entered the music industry as a rapper. When he was just eleven, he was one of Whitney Houston’s backup dancers for the music video of the song “Whatchulookinat” which was released in 2003.

When he was 17 years old, Offset wanted to have a better life for himself and his family so he decided to make some money out of his music and that’s when he formed the rap group Migos with his cousin Quavious or “Quavo” who is Takeoff’s uncle and Kirshnik as “Takeoff”. The three grew up listening to hip-hop artists like the Hot Boys, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane.

The members of Migos composes of three family members Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff who were raised in a middle-class upbringing in the suburban Gwinnett County, Georgia. The group was formed in 2008 and composes of Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset.

The group released their first mixtape, “Juug Season,” in 2011, and in 2013, the hip hop group released its single “Versace” which gained so much attention and reached the third spot on the US rap chart. In 2015, they released their debut studio album “Yung Rich Nation”.

Their song “Bad and Boujee” became a huge hit and internet sensation when they release it in 2017. Some fans even made memes with the lyrics “rain drop, drop top”. The song reached number one on the Billboard hot 100 and many critics believed that Offset lead the song.

They also released their second album “Culture” and the said album debuted at number one on Billboard 200 and got the certified platinum status.

As an artist, Offset released his first solo album in 2017 and had a collaborative album with the American rapper 21 Savage. Offset’s album debuted at number 4 on the billboard 200 chart.

Offset started dating the famous rapper Cardi B in 2017 and after a few months of dating, Cardi B and Offset tied the knot.

He was involved in a cheating scandal with Celina Powell in 2017. Celina said that she is pregnant with Offset’s scandal but later on she said that it was a fake pregnancy.

In April 2018, Cardi B revealed that she and Offset are expecting their first child. Offset has now five children with four different women.

Legal issues

While Migos are having their concert at Georgia Southern University in 2015, the group was arrested and was charged with possession of narcotics, marijuana, a firearm in a school safety zone, and a firearm during the commission of a crime. After eight months in jail, Offset was released on the fourth day of December 2015.

In 2016, Offset was again arrested for driving with a suspended license but was later released the following day.

Platinum Transportation Group which is a car rental company sued Offset in 2021. The car company complained that Offset rented a car and claimed that it was gone without any rational explanations.
