Early Life

Solana Imani Rowe was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 8, 1989. She was raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, USA. Her father was a Muslim and her mother is Christian. Rowe was raised as a Muslim and had a firm belief in one God. SZA has two siblings, an older brother Daniel and half-sister, Tiffany Daniels.

SZA attended a Muslim prep school after regular schooling. When the terrorist attacks happened on September 11, 2001 in New York, SZA (in 7th grade at the time) was subjected to bullying, leading her to stop wearing her hijab.

In high school, SZA was active in mulitple sports inclusing gynmantics and cheerleading. At this time she was regarded as one of the best gymnasts in the country. She graduated from Columbia High School in 2008. After attending three different colleges, Rowe finally found happiness at Delaware State University studying marine biology.

Career

SZA released her first extended play (EP) titled ‘See.SZA.Run’ on October 29, 2012. The following year, she toured with the Swedish band Little Dragon and released her second EP titled ‘S’.

In March 2014, SZA released the titled Child’s Play. That following year, in November, she released the song Sobriety. That year, her two single EP titled ‘Z’ and “Babylon” were released.

SZA planned to release her third EP while working on his debut album, she also started writing songs for other artists including are Beyonce, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj.

SZA got her breakthrough when her debut album Çtrl’ was released in 2017. The album hit number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and Time Magazine designated it the best album of 2017. In August, she worked on the band’s single What Lovers Do with partner rock band Maroon 5. A song that ranked at number 9 on the Billboard Top 100. At the 2017 Grammy’s, SZA she received five nominations, the highest number of an female artists that year, but unfortunately did not win.

In January of 2018, SZA worked with Kendrick Lamar on the song All The Stars for the soundtrack album of Black Panther. This song hit number 7 on the Billboard Top 100 chart, her second to make the top 10 of the Billboard Top 100.
