Johanna’s life before her appearance on the entertainment scene remains a mystery to fans.
Johanna found her way into the entertainment industry in the year 1980 when she was selected as part of a production extra for the show ‘Foxes.’ Her work on the show’s set was impactful as merely a year later, Johanna was bumped to casting director for the thriller ‘Hell Night.’ Johanna jumped knee deep into the opportunity and joined numerous casting teams to create the shows ‘ The Seduction,’ ‘ Frightmare,’ ‘ Time Walker,’ and ‘ Firestarter.’ In 1986, Johanna landed her biggest hit with the film ‘ Blue Velvet’ which was a commercial success and solidified her prowess in the game.
Johanna once again stretched her abilities in 1992 when she produced 18 episodes of the hit series ‘ Twin Peaks.’ She continued to sharpen her production skills with ‘Gospel According to Harry ‘ and ‘Dead Connection.’ She has since worked on the shows ‘Mulholland Drive,’ and ‘Twin Peaks: The Return.’ Johanna worked frequently with David Lynch and the pair exhibited chemistry in their need to produce masterpieces. Over the course of her career, Johanna received recognition and was awarded for her talent. She was first nominated for an Artios Award in the year 1987 for Best Casting Feature for the film Blue Velvet. In 1988, she made another appearance on the nominee list for the category Best Casting for Feature Film, Drama with Gaby: A True Story. In 1990, she won her first and only Artios Award in the category Best Casting for TV Dramatic Episode with Twin Peaks.
Johanna once again made the nominee list in the years 1991 and 2002 for the categories Best Casting for TV Beverly Hills: Class of Beverly HIlls and Best Casting for Feature Film Drama with Mulholland Drive. Besides her commercial success, Johanna also featured in the documentary ‘ Secrets from Another Place: Creating Twin Peaks’ alongside other creative talents highlighting the birth and return of the popular show ‘Twin Peaks.’
Johanna married the late veteran actor Also Ray as his third wife on 26th May 1960. The couple had two sons, Paul and Eric, and one daughter. Unfortunately, their marriage only lasted seven years.
