Ken Curtis took birth in Lamar and spent the initial 10 years of his life on a ranch on a muddy creek located in Eastern Bent County. In 1926, along with his family, Ken shifted to ‘Las Animas’ the county seat of ‘Bent County’ so that his father named ‘Dan Sullivan Gates’ could run for Sheriff.
