Darrin Kenneth O’Brien was born on October 30, 1969, in the North York district of Toronto. Snow was born in the house of an Irish-Canadian cab driver and a homemaker. His parents divorced early, so his mother took care of them and raised them alone in the Allenbury Gardens public housing project. According to Snow, at that time, he took a deep interest in the gangster lifestyle; he was found there and involved in fighting, drinking, and stealing. Due to these interests, his study interest vanished, and he never learned to read properly; in 9th grade, he was dropped out of school.
In 1987, a dark period of Snow’s life was started as he spent eight months in jail. Snow was accused of beating a person with a crowbar. After completing the guilty time, he was released in January 1988.
In 1988, Snow served eight months in jail for involvement in a murder case that happened in a club. During his Jail days, he studied and wrote the music and performed for fellow inmates. One song was titled “Informer.”
During the time Snow spent in Allenbury Garden public housing project, he grew up interested in rock music. But, in 1983, he got interested in reggae music due to the increase of Jamaican immigrants to the neighborhood. His interest turned to reggae music, and Snow started adapting the Jamaican dialect. Later, he developed his blended style of music by including Dancehall and Reggae with rock and Pop music.
In 1988 he met Jamaican-born DJ Marvin Prince, and they became good friends. Both started working on music and practiced in Prince’s basement.
Snow’s singing career started after he arrived in New York, where he met music producers David Eng and Steve Salem. After signing a contract, Snow recorded his debut album “12 Inches of Snow,” released in 1992. More than 8 million copies of the album were sold worldwide. His song “Informer” was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for two categories; one as the best-selling single in the US and the other as the highest-charting single. Snow’s songs “Murder Love” and “Anything For You” are the top hits.
In 1997, Snow released a compiled album of all his songs called “Greatest Hits.” On October 2, 2014, Snow released another song named “Shame.” He announced that all the proceedings from “Shame” would be donated to the cancer patients.
On June 19, 2017, Snow won the award of Socan Classics 100,000 Radio Performances in Canada. His music was played more than 100k times on the radio. In March 2020, Snow got Award from SOCAN, “the Pop Music Award.”
Snow married Tamei Edberg, and the couple has a daughter named Justus, born in April 1996. In November 2009, Snow’s wife, “Tamei Edberg,” was diagnosed with cancer; after bearing the disease for some months, she died on November 27, 2009.
On June 24, 2010, Snow held “ClosURE For Cancer” in Toronto; it was fundraising for cancer patients; he raised $15,000 from the people. He also started his non-governmental organization called “Pure Snow NGO.”
In May 2016, Snow married Tara Elizabeth at St. Anselm Catholic Church. His wife is a well-known model and actress.
