Allen was born in Hammersmith, England to parents David Allen and Alison Owen. She has two sister, Sarah and Rebecca; and a brother named Alfie. Allen was introduced to film at an early age, appearing in an episode of “The Comic Strip” at the age of 3.

Her record company responded to this by recording 500 vinyl records, some of which retailed at £40 a piece. Allen recorded two mix tapes for her promotional work and her rising popularity led to a front-page feature in The Observer magazine.
Allen’s album Alright Still, was officially released in 2006, selling 520,000 copies in the US and 960,000 in the UK. In total, the album sold 2 million units worldwide. Her second album It’s Not Me, It’s You, was released in February 2008, reaching number one in the UK, Canada, and Australia. The album reached number 5 in the US.
