Sheriden was invited to join a new band that Tony Hiller had put together in the early 1970s. He was signed along with Martin Lee and Nicky Stevens and together they performed live on TV shows and radio. Sheriden recorded a single as a solo artist. The song was called Sweetest Tasting Candy Sugar. In 1973, the band recorded an album that Gaines them attention in Europe with hia like Lady and When Love Catches Up to You.
In 1974, The Brotherhood of Man released a new record, Kiss Me, Kiss Your Baby. The song was written by Sheriden before Tony Hiller and Martin Lee helped to rewrite the lyrics. Upon Hiller’s suggestion, the band submitted the song to the Eurovision song contest, and they won in 1976. The song became a hit in many European countries including the UK, Sweden, Finland, and France.
Sheriden, Hiller and Lee continued writing and recording songs for the band with Sheriden also doubling as musical director on some records. In 1982, Sheriden left the band after their success had waned.
Sheriden reunited with the band in 1986 and began touring. He remains with the band to date and have been performing regularly thought Europe.
Sheriden learned to play the piano from an early age. At the age of 14 he formed a pop band with friends but the band broke up soon after they appeared on a TV show. Sheriden would go on to join multiple bands throughout his teens. When he left school, Sheriden quickly established himself as a resident performer at the The Works Club in Bristol.
Sheriden wrote and recorded music throughout the 1970s and this helped him get the attention of talent scouts and music publishers like Tony Hiller. Hiller needed good songwriters to join his new publishing company. When he signed Sheriden and learned that he could write and sing, it was suggested that he join the band Brotherhood of Man; which was also signed to Miller’s company.
