Joan Elan opened her eyes on the 24th of July, 1928 in British Ceylon, present-day Sri Lanka. Her father’s name was Richard C. Bingham-Newland. Her mother’s name was Georgina Low. She had two siblings but she never mentioned their names.

Joan spent her childhood in the tea farms of Sri Lanka. Her family shifted to England when their father wrapped up his tea business from Ceylon. Most of Joan’s work is in the Western Television industry.

Joan Elan began her career in the British drama ‘Hell is Sold Out’ in 1951. She played the role of a nurse in that drama.

In 1952, she was selected as the cast member for ‘The Girls of Pleasure Island’. She played the lead role of Violet Halyard in the romantic comedy-drama The Girls of Pleasure Island in 1953.

In 1955, she was selected as the cast member for The Returning. The same year she played the role of Liza Gerlan in Boxing Match.

From 1955 to 1958, she remained part of Matinee Theatre. It was a television anthology series that had 3 seasons and more than 300 episodes. Joan played multiple roles in Matinee Theatre.

In 1957, she played Wendy Hollister in Darby’s Rangers. Darby’s Rangers also titled The Young Invaders was an action drama based on the first rangers battalion that took part in World War 2.
