Joe Lara spent his childhood in New Port Beach, California. He was fond of sand volleyball and soccer. But the strange thing is that he got voted in high school for the most valuable football player. Interesting!

In 1981, at the age of 19, he was approached by a modeling agency. And was offered the role of a runway model in Paris, Geneva, and Milan. And his career begins from this point.
