Robert Horton was born on the 29th of July, 1924 in Los Angeles, California USA. His mother’s name was Chetta McMurrin. His father’s name was Meade Howard Horton. Robert was named Meade Howard Horton Jr.

Robert graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. He studied theatre arts as his major. After graduation, he shifted to New York in search of work. In 1943, he applied in the Coast Guards but was not recommended because of an enlarged kidney.

In 1945, Robert Horton met a talent hunter by chance, he offered him the role of an extra in a world war 2 film, A Walk in the Sun. His father was not happy with this but he wanted to give it a try.

In 1952, Robert moved back to California. He acted in Apache War Smoke. Before getting his role in the Wagon Train, Robert acted in television shows including Lone Ranger and The Public Defender.

Robert rose to fame from his role of Flint McCullough in the show Wagon Train. Flint was the most loved character of the show. Robert began playing Flint from the beginning of the show in 1957. He left the show in 1962 when its channel was changed from NBC to ABC.

In 1965, Robert played the role of a cowboy named Shenandoah in ABCs A Man Called Shenandoah. The Cowboy Shenandoah was a young man with amnesia, he was in search of his identity. The show lasted for a year but it sparked Robert’s career as an actor as well as a singer. He sang the theme song, which became his most popular song.

In 1964, he released an album of pop songs, titled ‘The Very Thought of You’. In 1984, Robert appeared in Murder, She Wrote. In 1989, he ended up his acting career.
