David Caves was born on August 7, 1979, in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Campbell College, Belfast is from where Caves got his education. Caves’ parents and uncle were teachers at this college and he also wished to become a teacher when he grew up.

He studied modern languages at the University of St Andrews, including German and French.

Caves got training at LAMDA although he planned to become a teacher. As part of his university course, he worked as a teacher in France. But then, he got back to the UK and realized that his interest in teaching had ended. And he no longer wished to become a teacher.
