Irene was born on the 29th of March, 1991 in Daegu, South Korea. Her parents named her Bae Joo-Hyun. She has not disclosed her parents’ names. She has one younger sister. She went to Haknam High School when she was a teenager. In 2009, she gave an audition to SM Entertainment. After her selection, she began her training.
In 2009, Irene joined SM Entertainment as a trainee. After five years of training, Irene made her debut as the lead singer of the musical band Red Velvet in 2014.
